Curated Animated Christmas GIFs Are Surprisingly Beautiful

At first glance, Christmas and GIFs don't go together at all. But before you dismiss the idea of a Christmas GIF as a silly gimmick, check out these beautiful Christmas GIFs created by a team of international illustrators, animators, and directors. The curated open source project encourages users to submit their own GIF for the "festive showcase of animated GIFs." From the sweet and playful to the serious and somber, these GIFs encapsulate the entire range of emotions surrounding the holidays. Also: you can share them with friends (or submit your own). There's just one below, but you can check them all out here (h/t The Creators Project)

Watch: BBC Releases a 'Sherlock' Short to Sate Your Benedict Cumberbatch Cravings Until Season Three

Season three of "Sherlock," BBC's wildly popular modern day take on Arthur Conan Doyle's iconic detective starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, will premiere in the U.S. on PBS on January 19th at 10pm. But to tide over eager fans until then, BBC today released "Many Happy Returns," a "Sherlock" mini-episode written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat that offers a sense of what's been happening to the characters in the two-year gap between the season, a time in which Dr. Watson (Freeman) and Detective Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves) both believe Holmes (Cumberbatch) to be dead. As with last time, all 13 episodes of this new season of the Golden Globe-nominated drama will go live at once, and the trailer below, which Netflix released late last night, suggests the action will be stepped up in this new year, with Francis and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) battling for power after the fallout of last season.
